Owen G Parry & Angel Rose: Luv 2 H8 U
15 –16 Sep 2018
Queen Mary University of London
LADA DIY was supported by Norwich Arts Centre
"A hangout for ‘haters’, anti-fans and the uninitiated."
Luv 2 H8 U explores hate i.e “the fascism in us all” (Foucault) as an aesthetic practice and critical mode across a history of radicalised art and countercultural movements from punk to the alt-right, from songs by Erasure and Taylor Swift to National Art Hate Week.
Expect ceremonial exorcisms, hate-bakes, shitstorms, vindictive acts of revenge, hate-songs, hate-speech, hate-symbols, hate-mail, and hate-sex, interspersed with fits of screaming and deadly silence. We will harness, occupy, re-claim and repurpose the aesthetic pleasures and politics of hate in respect to issues of identity, spirituality and censorship. With special guest hate-experts.
Applicants were invited to choose something to hate-on for the duration of the hangout. "You’re not the victim, you’re the perpetrator in this antidote to group therapy." This could be anything from Tracey Emin’s Tory politics to the ACE Grantium application portal; the gay fascism of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy to hard-boiled eggs when they go all purply-grey. "We will be holding court and holding stuff to account!"
